Beitou private hot spring rooms, by the hour
A private hot spring room — 個室 — is Beitou's answer to every reason you might not want a public bath: tattoos, kids, modesty, or simply wanting to talk to the person you came with. You rent a room with its own tub for 60 to 120 minutes, fill it yourself from a sulfur tap, and nobody asks you to wear a cap.
The short answer
NT$400–2,000 for two people, 60–120 minutes. The cheap end is a plain tiled room at an old bathhouse; the middle (around NT$1,000–1,300) buys a hotel room with a cypress or stone tub, towels and toiletries; above that you're paying for a view or a meal. Most places take walk-ins — vouchers just lock the price and skip the counter.

How a Beitou private hot spring room actually works
You pay at the counter and are handed a key and a time. The clock starts when you enter the room, not when you get into the water — and filling a deep tub takes ten to fifteen minutes, which nobody warns you about. Start the tap first, undress second.
The room is yours alone: a tub, a shower or wash stool, a bench, usually a small window. You wash at the shower before getting in — this is not optional anywhere in Taiwan, private room or not. Then you soak, rest on the bench when your head starts to buzz, and go back in. Fifteen minutes in, a few minutes out, repeat.
At the end you drain the tub (most places ask you to) and hand the key back. Nobody hurries you out at exactly 90 minutes, but the next booking is real, so don't test it.
What's supplied, what isn't

A public pool costs NT$60–650 and a private room costs NT$400–2,000. That gap is the whole decision, so here it is without the sales pitch.

JBG Hot Spring Resort Hotel
Ten thousand-plus bookings and a room-plus-afternoon-tea format that suits a first visit. Roughly NT$1,000 at the door on weekdays; a child under 100 cm comes free. If you read no further, book this one.
Beitou Water House
The early-bird (09:00–11:00) and night (18:00–21:00) slots knock about 30% off, which makes this the cheapest hotel-grade water in Beitou. Towels, caps and unlimited water included; ten minutes uphill from the station.
Jindu Boutique Hot Spring Hotel
Two cypress barrels, a cold plunge and a lounge in the room, ninety minutes, in the middle of the old village. The one to book if the point of the evening is the person opposite you.
The Gaia Hotel (luxury)
Soak, then eat, without leaving the building or getting dressed twice. Costs about the same as a room elsewhere plus a restaurant, so it's a convenience buy rather than a saving.
Against our own interest — when not to book a room
Three cases where a Beitou private room is the wrong call
You're alone. A room for one costs the same as a room for two at most venues, and a solo soak in a tiled cubicle is a strange, slightly sad experience. Longnice's public bath is NT$150 and the Millennium pool is NT$60 — spend the difference on the market downhill.
You want the famous outdoor pools. Beitou's postcard is the terraced open-air bathing at Spring City and the public Millennium pool, under trees, in the steam. Almost no private room has a view; you're renting a bathroom with very good water in it.
You're already booking a hot-spring hotel. If your room has its own thermal tap — and most Beitou hotel rooms do — you are about to pay twice for the same water. Check the room description before you book anything on this page.

Beitou private hot spring FAQ — straight answers
What is the hourly rate for a private hot spring in Beitou?
There is no single hourly rate — venues sell sessions, not hours. A session runs 60 to 120 minutes and costs NT$400–600 at Longnice, around NT$1,000 at a mid-range hotel like JBG, from about NT$1,300 at Spring City, and more once meals or suites are involved. Divided out, that is roughly NT$300–900 per hour for the room, shared between two people.
Do I need to book a private room in advance?
Usually not. Most bathhouses take walk-ins and rooms turn over every couple of hours. The exceptions are winter weekend evenings, Chinese New Year, and any package that includes food — those sell out. A pre-paid voucher is worth it mainly because the online price is often below the door price.
Are private hot spring rooms tattoo-friendly?
Yes, universally. Nobody sees your tattoos in a private room, and no venue in Beitou asks. This is the single best reason to pay for one — at traditional nude bathhouses, tattoo policy is at staff discretion and can go either way.
Can two people share one private room?
That's the standard unit — rooms are priced per room for two. Longnice charges NT$50 per extra person up to five in its large room; hotel rooms usually cap at two adults and often let one small child in free. Ask before you pay if you're a group of three or more.
Do I wear anything in a private room?
Nothing, if you don't want to. The room is locked and yours. Wash at the shower before entering the tub — that rule holds everywhere in Taiwan, in private as much as in public.
How long do you actually get?

Can children use private hot spring rooms?
Yes, and it's the format families should choose — public pools enforce caps and temperature rules that small children dislike. Is the water in a private room the same water?
Same source, yes — the venue's tap draws from the same sulfur supply feeding its public pools. What you lose is scale and open air; what you gain is that you control the temperature by mixing hot and cold yourself.
What's the cheapest private hot spring room in Beitou?
Longnice at NT$400 for a small two-person room, open only between noon and 18:00, cash, bring your own towel. The cheapest room with hotel amenities is Water House on an early-bird or night slot, from $14.95.
Can I get a private room with an outdoor tub?
Rarely, and it costs. Most private rooms are indoors. Open-air private bathing in Beitou generally means booking a hot-spring hotel room with a terrace tub rather than renting by the session — see hot spring hotels.
